Good Friday & Relaxing Saturday

GOOD FRIDAY, April 10th would of been my Daddy's 67th Birthday (RIP). He passed away January 2008. I called my Mommy up to see if she wanted to come over in the morning and do a little metal detecting in our yard and she did!! She treated Bob and I to some Timmies Coffee & Muffins. Bob had to go out to meet with the director's of a new show he is suppose to be in titled DEEP RIVER.

When Bob was on his way back home he took some photo's.

Saturday, after a nice sleep-in, we got up and headed into town to get some shopping done. We picked up some pictures frames that looked like they would match the original one I received as a birthday gift from Julie, Bill, Sarah & Emma (Center Frame). I'm loving placing the Yellow Submarine collector's cards inside. Hopefully Bob will get these frames up for me soon!!!

Our kitty Melody wanted to get into a photo. :o)

We went out for dinner with Bob's family (Mom, Dad, Sister Anne, Bro-in-Law Tim, and Nephew Caleb & Niece Sarah. We had a great time and afterwards when we were driving home I spotted a beautiful sunset. I took a shot while Bob was driving home and then once we reached home we ran out to the Train Track and Bob snapped some great photos!!!

And as the evening arrived, we heard a fire call on the scanner dispatched as an alarm going off at a local business, so we ran up the street and recorded the fire truck zooming by.

Helped Welcome another Fallen Soldier Home in Canada

Today was the day that Cpl Tyler Crooks of Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada was to arrive home.

He was killed on his birthday on March 20, 2009 in Afghanistan. Cpl. Crooks and three other Canadian solders were killed when an improvised explosive device detonated near them during a patrol in Zhari District, west of Kandahar City, Afghanistan.

He was due to arrive after 3:50pm in the Town of Lincoln. We originally had decided we would stop on the Victoria Avenue bridge in Vineland to pay our respects with the Jordan Fire Fighters but got word my brother and his team of Fire Fighters from Vineland Fire Department would be at the Tufford Road bridge in Beamsville.

We had just got home from shopping in St. Catharines when two Jordan fire trucks and a police car passed our house. We quickly drove to Beamsville, parked the car and met up with my brother.

What we saw when we arrived.

At this point it was announced over the fire pagers that the ensemble of cars that were to arrive were in Toronto. We weren't moving.

Me waiting.

Bob waiting

Some of the crowd waiting

It was reported approx. 45 minutes to an hour later that they had hit Grimsby

The traffic started to get very scarce until there was no traffic at all on the highway in the oncoming lanes.

and then shortly later the lights appeared in the distance.

The group of cars with flashing lights got closer.....

It was amazing to see the opposite side of the highway traffic slow and pull over.

And they got closer and everyone on the bridge fell silent

Cpl Tyler Crooks -- thank you for what you have done for all of us!!!

Hands waved out of the limo at our bridge immediately following the hearse that carried Cpl. Tyler Crooks.

Bob and I were not able to attend the drive-by that happened for Warrant Officer Dennis Brown. This is the least we could do, pay our respects to another Fallen Soldier.

RECYCLE and get items you need or want!

I came across this interesting web site that is sort of like Ebay, except you SWAP items. Because times are tough and no one really wants to spend money, this is an awesome idea!!!!!

Here's the link: http://www.swapsity.ca/

I think for now it is just for Canada. I know when I joined you had to request a membership.

Craving Thunderstorms

With spring fast approaching and the odd mornings getting up and going outside to feel the warm temperatures the odd time along with a drizzley morning, it makes me crave thunderstorms.

Bob and I LOVE thunderstorms and driving somewhere where we can try and take photo's of lightning.

These were taken near the Beacon in Jordan Station, Ontario, Canada.

There were taken in Port Dalhousie, Ontario, Canada

Yesterday was a Lazy Day

So, yesterday was a lazy day. We slept in, woke up, it was blowing and snowing outside. We made coffee & toast and decided it would be an art day.

Bob started working on more little G-Scale items for his Garden Train set and I was inspired by a Blue Meanie from Beatle's Yellow Submarine and painted this funky and fun photo frame. (Currently for sale on Etsy, see to the right of the screen for my store).

Later on in the evening we stayed up to watch the Academy Awards. We were VERY impressed with the whole set up of the stage along with how they handed out the awards for the support actress, actor and main actor & actress. Loved the speech from the director of the short animation Kunio Kato’s “Domo Arigato Mr Roboto”. Here's the link I found on YouTube of the speech!

PS: Happy Birthday to our friend JOE!!!!!!!

Back on 02-12-09 we had a Weird Power Problem in Jordan Station

The morning of February 12, 2009 the wind was howling outside. Bob was in the washroom getting ready for work and I decided to put some items out in the recycle box. As I was outside I could hear some weird electrical noise in the distance while the wind was howling through the trees. I noticed the outside security light was flickering fiercely. I walked back into the house to see the lights all dimming down to equal what you would call a brown-out and then coming back on full-force. Bob yelled from the bathroom "What are you doing?" because our bathroom doesn't have windows so the room he would of been in would go completely dark as the power would shut off and back on. I ran back outside and saw a blue flash above a tree in the distance. I ran down to the top of the street to see a power line arching. I ran back to the house to grab the camera and then ran back to the top of the street to record this:

When I got back to the house the power was still flickering wildy. Bob and I ran around the house unplugging anything that didn't need to be plugged in and decided we better head to work or we were going to be late. We then decided to stop nearby where the arching wire was but far enough a way so we wouldn't get hurt and Bob took a series of snap shots with the camera and was lucky enough to come up with this one:
