Introducing THE THROWBACKS - Local band in the Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada

The Throwbacks are a five piece cover band who play a wide variety of guitar-based, 1980’s rock music. The members of the band grew up with this music and play it with passion. Band members include Will  (vocals/guitar/harmonica), Twan (lead guitar & vocals), Tony  (drums), Dave (bass guitar) and Tom  (rhythm guitar). All of the members have stable day jobs (four are professors at Niagara College, the other a service technician), but playing with The Throwbacks is something we all look forward to and we bring that energy to our shows.

Each of them has a long-standing background in music, with all of of them having played in bands or other musical venues. Lead guitarist Twan  has played with many local Niagara bands over the past 20 years and works actively in the studio. Tom played guitar in various cover bands and used to organize the ‘Brock Jam’ back in the early 1980’s at Brock University. Tony  played drums with various original bands since the 80’s. He was also part of the Ottawa music scene in the early 90’s. Although he started on the guitar, Dave took up the bass four years ago. He has played coffee house venues during his university days, done numbers at various weddings, and plays bass in a church praise band. Will played in various bands with friends (Wayward Sons) and loves to sing harmony and has honed his skills via Beatles Rock Band.

The band covers material by artists such as The Pretenders, U2, The Police, The Clash, Dire Straits, The Romantics, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Teenage Head, Oasis, and a wide variety of ‘one hit wonders’ (songs you forgot you loved) from this period. The material they cover ranges from laid back grooves to faster rockers, with some reggae beats, slower & softer tunes, and the odd pop-punk gem to add some variety.

While The Throwbacks have only been in existence since May of 2010, the band has played a number of large gigs including the Rankin Run for Cancer (where we played to 7,000 people), the Niagara College orientation, and various other Niagara College events. In July & November we played at the bar Different Strokes (Grimsby) and returned in December to host their New Year's Eve party (2010). They have also played at The London Arms and at Johnny Rocco’s in St. Catharines. They hope to keep playing live, gain more experience on the local bar scene and continue to appear at larger scale events in the Niagara community.
