HAPPY 10th Birthday Dawson, I bought my Doc Martens today - OW OUCH OW & a Small Metal Detecing Break!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWSON!!!!!!!!

Today it is our nephew's 10th Birthday!!

It is so hard to believe that he is 10. It seems like yesterday that he was a wee little guy.

We actually had a mini birthday dinner for him last night at Mom's house.

So, this morning after a nice sleep in, run to Tim Hortons, off to JUST TRAIN CRAZY and The Hobby Shop, we headed off to The Pen Centre. We were on a mission, today we were going to look for a pair of Doc Martens shoes for myself.

We located a small selection at The Boot Shop. They had funky yellow boots and really cool runners, but I have always wanted the regular Doc Marten shoes. So after trying on a couple of pairs I picked one I wanted and we were off. We decided to go to London Arms for a bite to eat and while sitting and deciding what to order I decided it would be a wonderful idea to put the shoes on so I could start breaking them in.

We decided we would stop into London Arms for a bite to eat. While deciding what to order I decided it would be a great idea to wear them for the rest of the day to break them in. So, what actually happened, they broke me. lol After another three stores the backs of my heels started hurting. Yep, you guessed it, lovely blisters had formed. OW OUCH OW!!!! :o( I was not happy. "How could you let me buy these Bob?" I sobbed. "Why didn't you stop me?" "I DID!!" Bob explained? "How?" I asked. "I asked you if they fit properly" he replied. LMAO! Okay, like I know that's code for DON'T BUY THEM. LOL!!! Thing is, when I had them on in the store and did the basic walk around to make sure they fit and felt fine, they did!!!! Someone please tell me after a while they will feel fine. Funny thing, my email friend Betsy from Phillie told me she had two pairs and they were very uncomfortable. (sigh) Hope it's a fluke and they will feel better in a week or so. They look funky - don't you think??? (Just look past my PJ pants) haahahahahh

So, after we arrived home, it was decided we would go metal detecting. We're aiming to find out the history of our house and thought there might be some interesting items to dig up. When we first moved in (back in Sept 08) we found junk metal, nails, etc.... and one button which ended up being an Army Service Button from the 1930's. Well, tonight we found another button near the back of the yard, but it is so badly rusted, not sure what it was. Our Real Estate agent TERRY COX showed up for a quick visit so we put the detecting on hold for a bit and headed back out after he left. We continued detecting and found a good signal (which read as a penny reading) in the back yard, so Bob began to dig.

and dig.....

and dig.......

and dig some more....

and dig and then all of a sudden, his shovel broke through something and we heard the sound of water splashing....

He dug approx. 2 - 2.5 feet down

The metal that we hit we believe was a lid of some sort, not 100% sure what it was........... old outhouse hole? old well? (weird since there is another well closer to the house), we quickly found some large stones to pile on the hole and filled it all in. I'm worried, what it could be in the middle of the back yard.

We continued detecting onto a vaccant lot and founds lots of junk from a house that use to be there. We did find a quarter and some pennies. We even found a weight from a barbell. It started to get dark so we headed back home.

There was a phone message from our Detecting Buddies (aka cousins) Steve and Nadine expressing an interest in Metal Detecting tomorrow, so we're heading out in the morning to do that. Wish us luck eh? lol
